Self-evaluation Essay: Genomics

Sanzhar Sagandyk

During this semester, I took the “Genomics” course. In this course, we studied various genomic study methods such as sequencing, epigenomics, the Human Genome Project, and different animal genomes (whale, tiger). Additionally, we covered phylogenetic trees and evolution concepts.

Due to several reasons, I believe I deserve the highest possible grade (A+):

1. I actively tried to answer questions during class.

2. I encouraged my peers by asking questions and bringing up topics for discussion during class time.

3. I thoroughly enjoyed the course material and the atmosphere during class. These conditions allowed me to think beyond my usual scope because I was not afraid of being wrong and staying active. I also appreciated your jokes, which elevated the mood and made my Thursdays memorable.

4. I discovered new sequencing techniques and will remember the size of the human genome forever.

5. I wrote an essay and made a video about an interesting topic.

6. I understand the principles of good speech.

7. Most importantly, during this course, I learned a scientific approach to thinking and data analysis. In my opinion, this is the most valuable skill I have gained.

For these reasons, I believe I deserve the highest possible grade (A+) in this course.
