genomic market is very useful when considering their effects and purposes. It is highly related to the personal genomics. We can identify what kind of drug is needed or what disease the person might have or likely to have by searching their genome sequencing. If commercial genomic market is activated, then the price of genomic sequencing is getting cheaper and cheaper and quality of that is also better than now because competition usually makes that phenomena. By doing this we can reduce the probability of side effects of drugs and other therapy. In addition, in terms of intracellular view, we can repair our mutated DNA
I think that opening the genomic market has a lot of advantages, but it is not saying that disadvantages do not exist at all.
In the movie "GaTaCa", an outlook on the world is very similar to what genomic market is expecting. all people take a personal genomic sequencing, and by doing that, they can easily know their condition, disease probability, and even a life expectancy. But the movie show some side effects about that phenomena. Fistly, they separate people according to their genomeic quality. If company want to employ some applicants, What they should do is just checking the applicant's genome to check their ability. In other words, however he or she put a lot of efferot to do something, If their genomes are not good, then they never do what they want. The destiny of people is already fixed based on their genome. I think it is absolutely not different from feudal society in the past. In this case, all people will try to take genomic engineering to modify their original genome to ideal one, and if the cost of that process is high, then the rich-poor gap will be much bigger because the poor do not afford to taking genomic engineering. The poor will have poor-genome while the rich will have rich-genome. The differences between their genomic quality makes the huge gap between them because the high-quality job is qualified only for whom having a ideal genome.
Secondly, because ideal genome is constant, if all people persue the genomic modification, then genomic diversity may be disappear. Most of them will have the similar or same genome. It is fatal if some new disease occur or when we should endure catastrophe. Genetic diversity have been major factor why human being remained for a long time. Even under the extreme situation, at least few people could survive because of their genetic diversity. If genomic diversity disappear, people may be exinct in future.
Although I wrote more text on explaining the side effects, I think that advantage is much larger than their side effect. But we should also consider the disadvantages of genomic market to minimize the side effect. commercial genomic market is ,of course, very good strategy. But the government must control this market for blocking their abuse.
