Onconomics

1. Abstract

Onconomics provides information about the efficacy of specific drugs on the cancer cells derived from a single patient. This provides the way to efficient cancer treatment. There are three division, high sensitivity, partial sensitivity and no sensitivity.

2. Intro

Cancer Type

All type of Cancers

Sample Required

Blood of tissue for Central Nervous System Primary Tumors

Blood sample Qty

15-25ml peripheral whole blood

Tissue sample Qty

Minimum 400mg

Analysis Period

Approximately 7 days

Final Results

7-10 days

The outcome of gene expression is validated with viability assays since gene expression rate does not always have a linear relation with protein phenotype of cells. Hence in micro-cultures (well plates) in triplets, we confirm the viability of the cells when they exposed to the active form of a drug. The viability diagram represents the percentages of the viable cells in comparison with the primary population.

3. Result

(Example)

  • Cutoff point:

Over 80% cytotoxicity: Sensitivity on this exposed drug à High Sensitivity

Between 35% to 80%: Moderate sensitivity à Partial Sensitivity

Below 35%: The substance is ineffective à No Sensitivity

4. Discussion

Gemcitabine is a nucleoside analog used in chemotherapy. It is used in various carcinomas: non-small cell lung cancer, pancreatic cancer, bladder cancer and breast cancer. This show 82%, a highest record so it is highest sensitive.

Pemetrexed is a chemotherapy drug. Its indications are the treatment of pleural mesothelioma and non-small cell lung cancer. This recorded 70% so it is second sensitive.

MTX (methotrexate) is chemotherapy agent and immune system suppressant. It is used to treat breast cancer, leukemia, lung cancer, lymphoma, and osteosarcoma. Also it is used to treat autoimmune diseases, ectopic pregnancy and for medical abortions. This recorded 60% so that it is third sensitive following Gemcitabine and Pemetrexed.

Like those three drugs, we can choose drug for cancer effectively using onconomics. This will give us efficient cancer treatment and few side effect.
