From Biolecture.org

From the end of this month, it is possible for civilian to ask to analyze his or her own genes at non-medical organization. The government revised 'Bioethics and Biosafety Act' last Decemebr so that non-medical gene analysis organizations can also examine personal's genes without commision from medical centers. Possible gene analysis targets are average body mass index, neutral lipid level, cholesterol level, skin aging, skin elasticity, caffeine metabolism, blood sugar, blood pressure, etc. With this, it has founded that gene analysis market can grow on. The sad thing, however, is that genes that essentially require gene analysis such as related to personal drug resistance and disease carrier are all ruled out and those that are difficult to use analysis result medically are allowed. This fact would rather impede the growth of gene analysis market.

In developed countries like United States and Europes, a system that a person asks for his or her own gene analysis (what Michael said during last lecture). However, surprsingly, the majority doesn't want to ask. For me, as personal, it has been a long desire to ask for my own gene analysis when it becomes possible, so it was a bit doubtful result. Even Michael suggested a condition that only one's family doctor can know and approach to the result, still, the result was the same.
Development of science technology is important, however, it has to be with the improvement of recognition about that technology's application to majority of people.
