3. Genomics Class (0527)

From Biolecture.org

   1) Define Genomics your own way after doing reserch on what genomes are and how we study.

Genomics is study of genome, usually DNA sequence of organism. The suffix –ome means that ‘totality of some sort’, so genomics is not simply studying some specific types of gene, but it is study of huge biological data set. For example, we can sequence whole genome of some organism, and compare them with other organism’s genome. Genome constantly communicates with environment and it makes some phenotype.

   2) What is the origin of genomics?

Genomics started from Mendel's cross experiment in 1864, and through this experiment we know about basic principle of heredity.

   3) History of genomics?

Darwin - Mendel - 3D proteins - Cloning, Recombination - Amplification Technologies - Human Reference Genome - Next generation sequencing/Personal Genomics - Synthetic Biology - Genome Engineering.

   4) The future of genomics?

Genomics has been developed to know about basic knowledge like how some trait is inhereted, technology to sequence various types of organism. These days, as I leared in the class, genomics is usually used for clinical purpose like prediction of diseases from DNA sequence. Also their price is decreasing, so many peoples can easily use those technique.
