In 2003, cost of genome analysis for one person was about 3 trillion won and 13 years was required. However, in these days, genome analysis technique developed rapidly. In many countries in Europe had investigated genomes of many people. There is a one project that analyzes Korean genomes which is called KPGP (Korean Personal Genome Project).

Goal of KPGP is identifying common genetic traits of Korean which are different from other groups. For instance, Korean may have different disease encoding genes to American.

By doing KPGP, in the future we can use personal genetic information to personalized medical system. Also, constructing standard genetic information of Korean is possible.

KOREF is the abbreviation of Korean Reference. Thanks to combining technology of sequencing and mapping, we can construct Korean ethnical genome reference.

Current standard human reference is based on Caucasian and African. This reference usually used for research or biomedical application. However, Korean population genome isn’t match with standard human reference. So, many researchers in Korea have been done projects which making standard Korean genome reference.
