Lecture 1 - What is the bioinformatics?

What is the bioinformatics? -> Mapping biological phenomena and its data. It is different depeding on parameters.

FTP: File Transfer Protocol, HTTP: Hyper Text Transfer Protocol

To analyze the data using computer, we have to change file format which computer can understand.

In some area like bioinformatics, there are many fields to study.
What is the best method for studying this area?
(1) Select the specific part which you want.
(2) First of all, learn about basic and general principle of the area. And then, study detail.

What is the life? -> "Life is a set of switches." (switches make changes in life)

IFF: Infinitely Fractal Encapsulation

What is the component of life? -> Time, Energy, Information

What is the epigenetics?
-> It is genetic variation and heritable phenotype transmitted to next generation. But, it can not be explained by changes in DNA sequences. It can affect the DNA by external methods.

** We have to know hierarchy of life **
cell -> tissue -> organ -> organism -> population -> species -> genus -> family -> order -> class -> phylum -> kingdom -> domain -> universe
