Why there is no Novel prize winner in Korea?

MIND + ACCENT

Proteomics

Why protein is the most biomolecule?

Energy and switching

Protein is the semiconductor in life (by phosphorylation – ATP,  pH gradient - electricity)

Protein information – X-ray crystallography, NMR, Cryo-EM, Microscopy

Coil – irregular structure – binding/interaction – Toxin(toxic molecule) Venom

Post translation modification – glycosylation, phosphorylation, Sulfation

Interaction proteomics – Interaction is the start point for function.

Epigenomics (outside genomics)

Reversible modification on a cell’s DNA or histones that affect gene expression without altering the DNA sequence.

Mechanisms

Histone modification, RNA interference, DNA methylation

DNMT1 – SAM

Imprinting -> X chromosome inactivation

DNA methylation -> detection by Next-generation Sequencing

Bisulfite treatment of cytosine. Treatment of DNA with bisulfite converts cytosine residues to uracil but leaves 5-mC residues unaffected.
